“Religion that God accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”James 1:27
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”1 Timothy 6:10
“God has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.” Luke 1:51-53

It was a time like this,
War & tumult of war,
a horror in the air.
Hungry yawned the abyss-
and yet there came the star
and the child most wonderfully there.
♥♥
It was a time like this
of fear & lust for power,
license & greed and blight-
and yet the Prince of bliss
came into the darkest hour
in quiet & silent light.
♥♥
And in a time like this
how celebrate his birth
when all things fall apart?
Ah! Wonderful it is
with no room on the earth
the stable is our heart.

I feel sad when all evangelicals are lumped into one group. I was evangelical once. And I cared about the poor, as did my family, as did my community. My family is still evangelical. My mother serves the poor in the most Christ-like way I have ever seen (not even kidding). And she doesn’t like (and didn’t vote for) the current administration or all that is happening. Although we do disagree on many things, I know we are all doing the best we can. My mother is not alone. 80% of evangelicals did not vote for PT. Only 80% of white male evangelicals voted for PT. I think it’s amazing how many people, men, women, minorities, etc who abandoned their tribe to fight against the current politics. While many people are motivated by greed, those at the top – evangelical or not – I think it’s unfair to just blame the new tax code on evangelicals or assume they blanket all love it. I’m not evangelical anymore. But one the reason I’m not is because I didn’t like how I was judged. I can’t join in judging them now…that’s why I left. I can’t become that again, just in another context. And I know initimately that they are diverse, many thoughtful, and many try their hardest with the utmost Sincerity. I’ve been having conversations with evangelicals who have different political positions than me – to try to understand where they are coming from. A lot of people have interesting reasons for voting the way they did, that are not greed driven. Sorry, long comment!

Great, thoughtful comment. Thanks for the food for thought. I do know some female and younger evangelicals who have borne the wrath of their spouses/parents and opposed trump’s agenda. So I’m guilty of stereotyping!

Well, a few things must be getting through the Fox filter… Evangelical voters are one of the key groups to have slipped significantly in their support of Trump lately. Mueller’s findings, when out, will open eyes for many more…. who are yet hoping against copious evidence.

Denial is an amazing thing. I do not think they will believe Mueller. They’ll cook up conspiracy theories between him and Comey or something. We shall see.
